Perhimpunan Keluarga 2007 a Success

Alhamdulillah the Perhimpunan Keluarga 2007, held from 3rd to 5th August 2007, has been a great success. Members not only insisted that the Perhimpunan Keluarga should continue every year, but also requested another annual national event mainly for the youth.

This year’s theme ‘Empowering Our Youth’ has made a great impact on the Melayu UK. For the first time in our Perhimpunan Keluarga, our youth have been able to play a more prominent role. This can be observed in our forum entitled “Empowering Our Youth” where 2 of our youth outlined new ideas for the role of youth in Melayu UK. The panel members of the forum were Hamidi Abdul Rahman (President, Melayu UK), Sarah Hamidi (Communications Officer, ISC (FOSIS), Mohd Zamri Abdul Hamid (Deputy Secretary MISG-ABIM UK & Eire) and Khaidir Jamal (President, MBNNS).

The Perhimpunan also observed the formation of a Melayu UK Youth committee to spearhead the mobilisation of our youth. They are Falah Hamidi, Nabilah Hamidi and Faiz Fazli Shah. Several actions are already underway just days after the Perhimpunan Keluarga. Shortly, there will be a dedicated e-group and forum for the Melayu UK Youth. The target age of the group is 14 to 25. Melayu UK will provide the material and moral support to ensure that projects undertaken by our youth will be successful.

We are pleased to have members from MISG-ABIM UK & Eire (Malaysian Islamic Study Group – Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia) helping with the organising of the Perhimpunan. The secretary of MISG-ABIM, Qurratul Akyun Daud, even donated 10 Iqra’ books to our Unit Keluarga Cheshire, headed by Yaqub Allen. Furthermore, they have also pledge to assist our Unit Keluarga.

Throughout the Perhimpunan Keluarga, the weather has been great. The hot and sunny weather was a great contrast with that of the previous weeks. Many participants have also tried camping in tents this year. We are convinced that this is a gift from Allah to our members who have prayed for the weather to be nice.

We would like to thank all those who have joined the Perhimpunan and a very special thank you to all those who have volunteered in the organising of the event. The Perhimpunan would not have been a success without your help and attendance.
